01   What is Identity Theft? 

The short answer is that identity theft is a crime.  Identity theft and identity fraud are terms used to refer to all types of crime in which someone wrongfully obtains and uses another person's personal data in some way that involves fraud or deception, typically for economic gain.  ID Theft Statement

02   Charity /Affinity Fraud

 Charity fraud occurs when an individual or group deliberately misrepresents its fundraising intentions or solicits charitable funds for phony causes. Although the potential for deceptive fundraising practices by not-for-profit solicitors increases in the aftermath of national tragedies and natural disasters, it is always present.

03   Credit Card Skimming

 Most cases of credit card fraud involve skimming, a process where the genuine data on a card's magnetic stripe is electronically copied onto another card, without the legitimate cardholder's knowledge. Skimming normally occurs at retail outlets - particularly bars, restaurants and gas stations - where a corrupt employee skims a customer's card with a small, hand-held electronic device before handing the card back, then sells the information on higher up the criminal ladder where counterfeit cards are made.
